Sick or Hospitalized Infant

If your infant or child is hospitalized or needs to undergo surgery, the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine protocol reviews recommendations for supporting breastfeeding during this time.  If you simply have a baby who is suffering from daycare viruses and/or bugs from their older siblings, the best thing you can do is let your baby feed on demand.  This may be very frequent initially during an illness, but not only does it help your baby get better more quickly, but it provides a source of comfort for sore throats and painful ears.
