Breastmilk Content and Volume

Breastmilk content and volume changes on a daily basis during lactation.  A common misconception of moms as they move further from the postpartum time period is that their breasts should not ever feel softer, and they have to continually produce more and more milk for baby’s needs.  In fact, it is the opposite:  breastmilk increases its calories over time (whereas formula is a fixed caloric content so a larger baby needs more and a smaller baby needs less). Hyperlactation (high supply) and hypolactation (low supply) are also relevant to this discussion.
