Distractible Baby

Babies become increasingly distractible around 3 or 4 months of age, and sometimes even earlier.  This is when many babies will nurse for short periods of time at the breast, and also increase their time between nursing.  They may start nursing more at night because there is less stimulation for them.  Do not force a distractible baby to nurse when he thinks he has other things in mind to explore.  This can lead to “breast refusal” and “nursing strikes.”
